Theatre Arts at Inly: Growing Confident Voices from Kindergarten to Middle School

At Inly, theatre arts is woven into every stage of a student’s journey—from Kindergarten through Middle School. Every student performs in annual plays and musicals, and every student gets a role.
Performance begins on stage in Kindergarten and continues each year with age-appropriate productions at every level, ensuring that all students develop as confident presenters and capable contributors. Along the way, students explore big ideas and creative expression, discover their own voices, and build empathy by stepping into the experiences of others.
Kindergarten – Building Brave Beginnings
Students gain confidence speaking and moving on stage through small performances, explore emotions through role-play, and build storytelling skills by dramatizing familiar stories. They practice memorization and sequencing through short scripts and rhymes while learning teamwork and shared responsibility in group performances.
Lower Elementary (Grades 1–3) – Finding Their Voice
Students begin learning lines, songs, and simple choreography while practicing collaboration, turn-taking, and creative expression. Performing for peers and families builds confidence, communication skills, and comfort on stage.
Upper Elementary (Grades 4–6) – Growing Skill and Presence
Students take on longer lines and songs with more complex choreography, develop stage presence and vocal projection, and collaborate on character development. They learn to give and receive constructive feedback as part of a creative team.
Middle School – Refining Craft and Leadership
Students refine acting, vocal, and movement skills through multi-scene and ensemble roles. They collaborate more independently in rehearsals, take on expanded responsibilities in complex musical productions, and build confidence through polished performances that demand commitment, creativity, and teamwork.
In addition to level plays and musicals, students in Grades 3 and up can audition for the Inly Players—a community-wide musical that brings students together with parents, faculty, staff, and professional artists. These multi-generational productions offer another powerful space for growth, inviting participants to stretch creatively, practice professionalism, and build meaningful connections across the community.
See it all in action this weekend with Seussical the Musical—a joyful, family-friendly production celebrating imagination, kindness, and belonging.

A cast of students and adults perform in last year’s Inly Players production of “The Wizard of Oz.”
