Welcome from the Interim Head

Welcome from the Interim Head

At Inly, we all come together to create something special. More than 300 children under our care are embarking on a student-centered journey, guided by Montessori principles and supported by skilled, nurturing teachers who foster their natural curiosity.

Best of all though? Inly children love coming to school. And we know children learn best when they’re happy and engaged. Rather than expecting our students to sit quietly at their desks, Inly makes use of a child’s innate inclination to explore by guiding them in interactive, collaborative, and meaningful learning experiences. Within joyful, purposeful classrooms—and throughout our 13-acre campus—our children reach their potential and develop an intrinsic love of learning that lasts a lifetime.

The development of the heart, mind, and body of each individual child is integral to what we do. To truly nurture each of these aspects, Inly has built on our Montessori foundation to create a unique program which we call Montessori+ (Montessori, plus more!). Surrounded by a warm community composed of dedicated and compassionate individuals, students achieve the kind of academic results that prepare them for anywhere or anything. They develop the academic and interpersonal skills to navigate an ever-changing world, and most importantly, to become global citizens who are self-motivated, responsible, and caring. Inly students also grow into confident, curious thinkers — driven by purpose, equipped to lead, and eager to make a difference. They leave us inspired, empowered, and ready for success in high school and beyond.

Come visit. Our faculty and students would be delighted to meet you and show you our magical school on the hill.

Your child is going to love it here!

Neal M. Brown, Ed.D.
Interim Head of School

Dear Inly Community,

The Inly Board of Trustees is thrilled to share the wonderful news that Dr. Neal Brown has enthusiastically agreed to continue as Interim Head of School for a third year, extending his leadership through the 2027–2028 school year.

Since joining our Inly School community in July 2025, Neal has displayed a warm, inclusive and transparent leadership style and, importantly, shown meaningful progress on strategic goals set by the Board.

In this short time, Neal has introduced faculty and staff evaluations, fostered professional growth, and enhanced communication to both staff and our families, all of which strengthen our School’s culture. Fundraising and parent engagement have reached new heights, and the sense of unity and stability across our campus has never been stronger.

Indeed, parents have proactively voiced their hope for Neal to remain beyond the original contract, faculty sentiment about his leadership is overwhelmingly positive, and the Board’s engagement and work have flourished with his partnership.

We truly want to take advantage of this forward momentum. Looking ahead, Neal’s third year will be a time of continued growth and opportunity and together, we will:

  • Further enrich our faculty and staff culture,
  • Collaborate to strengthen governance,
  • Address financial, enrollment, and campus needs,
  • Support program innovation and growth,
  • Enhance safety and security,
  • And deepen our commitment to DEIJ work, weaving it into the very fabric of our community.

With Neal at the helm, we are poised to prepare our School for its next long-term Head of School. This extended leadership term provides invaluable stability and direction for our staff and families, especially as we transition into our new Middle School Building and embrace the exciting challenges and opportunities ahead for independent schools.

Leading a school community is a profound responsibility, and Neal does so with clarity, thoughtfulness, and a genuine openness to every voice. We are confident that our School is in exceptionally capable hands, and we look forward to all that we will accomplish together.

With warmest regards,

J. Ryan Peña, MD, PhD, MS
President, Inly Board of Trustees 2025-26
