How Inly Approaches Holidays and Traditions

At Inly, holidays and seasonal traditions are woven into learning in ways that help every child feel known, included, and valued. We understand that this time of year carries different meanings for different families—joyful for some, complex or secular for others—and we create space for all experiences.
Because our Montessori+ approach prepares students to engage thoughtfully with the world, we use holidays as opportunities to explore how people celebrate, build community, and express identity across cultures. Children discover traditions that reflect their own lives (mirrors) and learn about the lives of others (windows), building empathy, curiosity, and global awareness.
What this looks like for students at each level:
Toddler House
- Sensory-based activities introducing seasonal and cultural materials
- Board books and picture cards highlighting diverse celebrations
Children’s House
- Rotating shelf work exploring multiple winter traditions
- Inclusive picture books and songs that reflect a range of cultures
Lower Elementary
- Grace & Courtesy lessons that nurture inclusive language and respectful curiosity
- Cultural studies that explore celebrations around the world and identify common threads
Upper Elementary
- Inquiry projects on “celebrations of light” across cultures
- Discussions emphasizing shared human values such as generosity, community, and hope
Middle School
- Student-led conversations about cultural traditions and equity
- Exploration of whose holidays are centered in society—and why—building critical thinking and awareness
At every level, our goal is simple: to help students feel at home in their own identities while developing a deep respect for the many ways people celebrate and find meaning in the world.
