Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Inly’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Inly School aspires to foster global citizenship, and to be a community that represents, explores, and honors a diverse mix of experience and expression. Multicultural education and practice is the responsibility and privilege of every member of the Inly community. Inly actively seeks faculty, families, and leadership who embrace and practice skills that reflect our Montessori core values of grace, courtesy, respect, compassion, and empathy.

Office of Inclusion

The mission of the Office of Inclusion is to dismantle systemic racism and build toward an antiracist, multicultural and diverse community at Inly; by developing competent, aware and reflective teaching teams, armed with tools to transform the supremacist narrative of our collective historical context.

Conferences are a great place to extend and deepen our learning. Each year, Inly sends several faculty members and trustees to AISNE’s annual Diversity Conference.

Inly teachers also travel with interested Middle School students to AISNE’s annual Middle School Student Diversity Conference.

In addition, Inly hosts the Montessori Inclusion Conference (MIC), a diversity conference for Montessori and other progressive middle school students, teachers, and parents.

Inly’s Montessori Inclusion Conference includes:
• Full day of programming for students, teachers, and parents
• Montessori students working in partnership with other local Montessori students
• Morning keynote
• Breakout sessions
• Lunch
• T-shirts
• Interactive closing circle

Assessment of Inclusion and Multiculturalism

During the 2017-2018 school year Inly participated in the Assessment of Inclusion and Multiculturalism (AIM), developed and administered by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). The AIM process included group discussion as well as anonymous online surveys taken by members of our community. The results are helping to guide the Office of Inclusion and the Board of Trustees’ Committee on Diversity and Equity in establishing our next strategic plan.

Want to know more? You can check out the NAIS website to learn more about AIM.
