What Does Each Step Involve?

Open Houses

Please mark your calendars and plan to attend an Open House. This is the best way to get to know our school!

Our Open Houses are both friendly and informative. Promptly at 9:00 a.m., our Head of School and Assistant Head of School give a brief overview presentation. Teachers from every level are also on hand to answer questions and demonstrate Montessori lessons. You may then take a tour of the campus with volunteer parents, students or faculty members.

Reservations are not necessary for Open Houses, but please be sure to sign in when you arrive. You are welcome to bring your children with you; all applicants will also have the opportunity to visit later during the admissions process.

Classroom Observations

Come experience Inly first-hand. This is a great opportunity to sit back and watch how a Montessori classroom works. You'll see students and teachers in action, and then have a chance to tour the school with Admissions personnel and ask questions.

We offer classroom observations for parents Monday through Friday, at 8:45 or 10:00 a.m. Observations last about 20–30 minutes. Although we request that children not accompany parents at this time, we do offer them an opportunity to visit later in the admissions process.

Classroom observations must be scheduled in advance – please call Admissions at 781-545-5544 x134.

Applications

Ready to apply? Download our Application or use the one in your Admissions packet. A $50 fee is due with your Application (checks payable to Inly School). Once we receive the Application, we will contact you to schedule your Student Visit and Parent Interview.

We consider toddler and preschool candidates on a rolling basis. Students applying for grades K–8: To be considered in our first round of file reviews, your Application must be submitted by the January deadline; those received after that date will be considered if space is available, or for our wait list.

Student Records

School records and/or a teacher evaluation form are required for all applicants currently in school or daycare.

Our Request for Record Release and AISNE Student Evaluation forms are available online (see link in upper right).

Be sure to 1) complete the top portion of the Record Release form and 2) choose the appropriate AISNE Student Evaluation form, based on your child's age or grade to which they are applying. Send both forms to your child's current school.

Our deadline for receiving paperwork from schools is February 1st. Please be sure to allow the schools adequate time to complete and send the information to us.

Student Visits

Once your Application is received, we will call to schedule a visit for your child. This visit allows your child and our teachers to interact in a warm and friendly classroom setting, and helps determine whether Inly seems to be the appropriate environment for your child.

See Key Dates for details about days and times of Student Visits. Activities vary, depending on the student's age:

Toddler
Toddlers and their parents visit the Toddler classroom together for a 30-minute visit on a mutually agreeable day. Children explore the room and meet with the Toddler teachers, while parents have a chance to see the environment first-hand.

Preschool
Children’s House (preschool) applicants visit with teachers in the classroom with current students present while parents speak with Inly faculty about their child and their educational goals. We schedule these visits on Tuesdays from 9:00-9:30 a.m. or Wednesdays from 8:30-9:00 am.

Kindergarten
Children’s House Kindergarten applicants visit with teachers in a small group, while parents speak with Inly faculty about their child and their educational goals. We schedule these visits on Tuesdays from 8:45-9:45 a.m .

First Grade
First grade applicants visit with peers in a Kindergarten class for an afternoon (12:30–2:30 p.m.). They work with Inly students, talk one-on-one with a Lower Elementary teacher, and do some brief testing so that we can determine the best placement for them at our school. (The parent interview typically takes place from 2:00-2:30 p.m. the same day.)

Elementary
Older elementary candidates (those applying for grades 2–6) visit a classroom for a morning (9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.) with peers of their age:

  • 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade applicants visit in a Lower Elementary classroom
  • 5th and 6th grade applicants visit in an Upper Elementary classroom

Applicants work with students in the classroom, participate in recess and lunchtime, talk one-on-one with a teacher, and do some brief testing so that we can determine the best placement at our school. (Parent interviews are scheduled for 12:30-1:00 p.m. that same day.)

Middle School
Middle School candidates (those applying for 7th grade) visit our school for a full day (8:30 a.m.– 2:30 p.m.). They work with our students, spend some one-on-one time with teachers, and do some brief testing so that we can determine the best placement for them at our school. Parent interviews are from 2:00-2:30 p.m. that same day.

Parent Interview

We schedule a 30-minute visit for parents to meet with Inly teachers to help us learn more about your child, to discuss educational goals, and to help ensure that our school is the right match for your family.

Toddler Parents
Since Toddler parents accompany their child to the student visit, we will schedule another time for parents to meet with our Toddler Director (without their child).

Children’s House (Preschool & Kindergarten) Parents
Parents meet with Inly teachers while their child is visiting a classroom.

First Grade Parents
Parents of 1st grade applicants meet with a Lower Elementary teacher just before pick-up (2:00–2:30 p.m.).

Elementary Parents (2nd–6th grade applicants)
Parents meet with a Lower Elementary or Upper Elementary teacher either after drop-off for the Student Visit (9:00–9:30 a.m.) or just before pick-up (12:30–1:00 p.m.).

Middle School Parents (7th and 8th grade applicants)
Parents of Middle School applicants meet with a Middle School teacher just before picking up their child (2:00–2:30 p.m.).

Financial Assistance

New candidates must have an Application on file in the Admissions office in order to be considered for financial assistance. The deadline for Financial Assistance applications is February 1.

Inly School uses an outside firm to process financial assistance applications. To learn more about the full financial assistance application process, visit Financial Aid Policy and FAQ on the Inly School website.

Enrollment

The Admissions Committee offers enrollment after it has been determined that the student and Inly School are a good match for each other, and provided that appropriate placement is available.

Toddler and Preschool
Those on the rolling cycle will recieve notification within two weeks after the file is complete (paperwork and interviews).

Grades K–8
Applicants who have completed all necessary steps by the appropriate deadlines will be notified March 8. Families must then make an enrollment decision by April 10; a $1,500 deposit is required at that time to reserve your enrollment.
