Lower Elementary: A defining period for intellectual exploration
- Our Lower Elementary program combines 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades in multi-age classrooms. This allows students to build social skills in a supportive, respectful environment and to stretch themselves academically—to their full potential.
- Hands-on math, science and language arts are the cornerstones of our innovative and comprehensive Montessori curriculum.
- Our academic curriculum also aligns with Massachusetts state standards and frameworks—and goes above and beyond.
- Spanish language and integrated cultural studies, including history and geography, promote global awareness and 21st century skills.
- Free after-school classes include music, acting, creative writing, dance, karate, Lego engineering, robotics and sports.

Elementary students are highly engaged by hands-on investigations in life science, physical science and earth science units. Whenever possible, students do experiential learning and field work outdoors.

Reading and writing skills are developed in first, second and third grade through individual and group work and creative interdisciplinary projects. Students also attend weekly library classes and read a range of literature at their individual reading levels.

Elementary students collaborate on a hands-on history timeline for a Cultural Studies project. Our rotating three-year curriculum covers Ancient Civilizations, American Civilization and World Civilizations.
