A Day in the Middle School
8:10
I arrive at around 8:10 and unpack my backpack. I go to the Great Room and wait for Morning Meeting.
8:15
Morning Meeting has started and I make an announcement about the upcoming day. The teachers will also chip in and remind about us about the upcoming day.
8:40
The meeting ends and I get ready to start my day.
8:45
Lit class starts. We are currently reading Animal Farm and I’m really enjoying the way my teacher is teaching this book.
9:30
I now have independent time, a time to work on my ongoing work and get help from teachers and peers, while some of my classmates have math. During this period I work on research for our upcoming Model United Nations trip to New York.
10:45
The 8th grade math group is always the last one to go. Today we are working on some more algebra problems. Our math teacher is great and very patient with all his students. We are all looking forward to recess though, which will start right after class.
11:30
We now start recess and I am presented with two options - to practice for the upcoming Coffee House in the garage or to play football with a group of friends and a teacher. I think it’s great that we middle school students still get a chance to have recess. Having this time to play and exercise greatly helps our focus in the next part of the day.
12:00
Lunch is a great chance to talk to kids and teachers about things other than academics. The great thing about Inly is your teachers are your friends and talking to them is just as much fun as talking to your friends.
12:25
I am assigned to clean tables this week and do my job until 12:30.
12:30
We now start Spanish class. Today we are translating stories from Spanish to English.
1:15
Life Skills are up next where we will learn, well, life skills. In class we talk about the trip to Sweden and challenges we may be faced with, living in a different culture.
2:00
Until about 2:45 I have my final independent time of the day. I decide to meet with my history teacher about my essay on World War II.
2:45
We take this time at the end of the day to have either an advisory meeting or whole group meeting. Tomorrow we go rowing so the teachers are reminding us to wear the right clothing. Once we finish up, we are ready to leave and excited for Friday, when we will go to Hull to row.
